Laser therapy (PBM) & wound care

Painless photobiomodulation to relieve pain, reduce inflammation and heal tissue faster.
Photobiomodulation therapy

What is PBM?

Photobiomodulation (PBM), previously called low-level laser therapy or cold laser, uses red and near-infrared light from non-thermal lasers and medical-grade LEDs. The light increases ATP (cell energy) production and local blood flow, so cells repair faster. It is natural, painless, non-invasive and safe.

Conditions we treat with PBM

  • Plantar fasciitis & heel pain
  • Muscles, ligaments, tendons
  • Knee pain (chronic or acute)
  • Sprains & strains (ACL/MCL)
  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Diabetic foot pain
  • Arthritis
  • Wound healing

How it helps

PBM is reported to accelerate tissue healing by up to 40%, increase collagen and bone formation, and reduce pain, swelling and inflammation. Because it strengthens repaired tissue, you can return to normal activities sooner with less chance of re-injury.

Your PBM session

  1. Your practitioner completes a full assessment and reviews your primary care provider’s diagnosis and past treatments. Please bring a list of your medications.
  2. Together you build a plan of care. A minimum of six treatments, 2–3 times a week for 2–3 weeks, is recommended.
  3. The practitioner gently massages the area, then applies LEDs and cold lasers to the area and to lymphatic and acupressure points. You stay fully clothed; loose clothing helps.
  4. You leave with advice on stretching, hydration, vitamins and any referrals that may help.
Medications: NSAIDs and steroids work differently from light therapy and may reduce its effect. Your practitioner will discuss this with you.

Foot & lower limb wound care

Our wound care nurses treat arterial, venous, diabetic and pressure ulcers. Wounds often come from underlying conditions such as diabetes, circulation, lymphatic or nerve problems, and pressure. We assess the cause and design a plan for each client. Many referring doctors know us as the limb-saving clinic.
