What is Reflexology and what does it do?

Foot Reflexology is an ancient Asian practice whereby massage pressure is applied to specific parts of the foot that corresponds to parts, glands and organs of the body. Through application of pressure to these points encourage detoxification, healing and relief from various conditions and unwanted aliments.

Reflexology aids in relieving tension and stress, improves microvascular circulation and reduces inflammation and lymphatic congestion thus decreasing the symptoms of  autoimmune conditions, removes toxic substances, eases pain, and brings about a profound sense of calm. Additionally, it helps remove blocked energy, which in Eastern medicine is thought to be the main reason for feeling unwell.

How does it work?

There are different theories about the exact way that reflexology works, but the main concept of all is that different areas of the feet are linked to specific body parts, and that putting pressure on one area of the foot can have an effect on the organ that it corresponds with.

Benefits of Reflexology

Reflexology may help you feel less stressed, more relaxed, and more energized.

  • IMPROVEMENT OF YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM
  • IMPROVEMENT OF YOUR NERVE FUNCTIONS
  • IMPROVEMENT IN YOUR BRAIN POWER.
  • INCREASED BLOOD CIRCULATION IN YOUR BODY
  • ELIMINATING YOUR BODY’S TOXINS
  • BOOSTING YOUR METABOLISM & ENERGY LEVEL
  • REDUCING YOUR HEADACHES
  • RELIEVING DISCOMFORT FROM MENSTRUATION & PREGNANCY

Reflexologists often refer to the feet as a “map” of the entire body. They believe that different areas on the feet correspond to specific organs and body parts. For example, the ball of the foot is thought to relate to the heart and chest, while the heel corresponds to the lower back and intestines. So, when you’re getting a foot reflexology massage, you’re not just pampering your feet – you’re potentially benefiting your entire body!

A session typically lasts 50 minutes. The practitioner applies pressure using their fingers, thumbs, and hands to designated areas of the feet, hands, or ears while the client remains seated or lying down.

Some people report:

  • Relaxation and stress reduction
  • A sense of improved well-being
  • Temporary relief of tension
  • Improved comfort during illness or medical treatment

Research suggests reflexology may help some people feel more relaxed, but evidence for treating specific health conditions is limited.

There is no standard number. Some people try a single session for relaxation, while others choose regular appointments based on personal preference.
